Airbourne - Oxford Carling Academy - 5th February 2008
Couldn't wait till the summer so for £6 (yes £6 ! ) off to the Oxford Academy.
Missed Mondo Cado whoever they were but saw Skirtbox.Young English 4 piece who were a bit Maiden,Saxon,UFO and Metallica. Both geetarists sang and solo'd and they could be one to look out for .Cd out in a couple of months.
Airbourne were immense. I haven't reviewed for a week to see if I feel any different than I did on the night. Young Aussie 4 piece who have produced the best AC/DC cd in 27 years. Nothing new but when it is done so well well who cares and if Angus and co can't be arsed, well we can take this I can tell you.
The gettarist comes on looking like Angus stripped to the waist plays an SG and sings like Bon!!!!They have elements of Rose Tattoo, The Angels with the attitude of Motorhead.
They played for an hour and 5 mins we got the whole cd plus a couple of extras and they were stunning. I have never seen so much headbanging on stage in my life.I could have done without the blatant Angus rip off walk through the crowd to the bar for a pint and back but they will be huge.
After the set they mingled, signed tickets, gave out plectrums and chatted.
They have just moved to New Jersey to commute better(!), have a US tour in April and then will be back in May/June.
They said they were just pleased someone turned up.The gig was moved twice as they sold so many tickets about 800.
So look out they will be huge so go see while you get the chance at a small venue before stadiums beckon.
