Bryan Adams - BIC 13/09/14 @bryanadams

When I told the girlfriend that, for our anniversary, she was going to have an intimate night with Bryan Adams her little face lit up. When I said that I too was having an intimate night with Bryan Adams, joy turned to dismay, and when I explained that we were both going to see an acoustic Bryan Adams show, the smile returned...

..albeit with a slight sense of disappointment that she wasn't going to shag Bryan.

Anyway, this was the Bare Bones tour - and it did exactly what it said on the tin. Simple backdrop, simple lighting and a bloke called Gary on piano every once in while. Apart from that it was just Bryan Adams, an acoustic guitar and that voice. If he were an amplifier, then his voice would be on the overdrive setting : smooth with some crunch when necessary.

let's face it - this tour was a brave thing to do. Nothing to hide behind, any weakness in the voice or guitar playing would be exaggerated but he nailed it right from the off.

Opening with one of his biggest hits seemed a bit of a gamble to be honest, but then when you see the setlist below and realise the breadth of his back catalogue then it was a no brainer to start with Run To You.

We had banter, laughs, sing-alongs, requests but overall we had a great night. The gig flew by.

This was the first time I had seen him since the original Reckless tour, and as he is about to start the UK leg of the 30th anniversary tour of that album so I'm going to see him twice in two months. It will be interesting to see if he can captivate an audience as much with his full band as he can with just an acoustic guitar.
