Europe “Not Supposed To Sing The Blues” single review
This is the first single (available digitally from the 9th
of March) from Europe’s highly anticipated new cd “Bag Of Bones” due to be
released on April the 30th.
The follow up to 2009’s Last Look At Eden which was
widely accepted by fans and critics as their finest since the heady days of
“The Final Countdown”.
Produced by man of the moment Kevin Shirley who does a
great job in producing such a well rounded sound with every instrument being
heard when required.
“Not Supposed To Sing The Blues” is a 4 minute tour de
force which would not have looked out of place on the last cd. It has a classic
rock feel to it.
An autobiographical look at growing up in Sweden with
references to Led Zeppelin and AC/DC and how Joey was told not to sing the
blues but knowing how he felt was the right thing to do.
The song has a driving riff and a huge chorus with Joey
sounding better than ever. The way the song slows down after the chorus and
then the drums and riff kicks in again is superb. John Norum’s solo is highly
melodic and fits in just so.
I have been lucky enough to hear the complete album
version which clocks in at around a minute longer. With an extended quieter
period just before the guitar solo when the drums kick in wow. There is an
extra guitar solo at the end with Joey singing over the top which I have to say
takes the song to a totally different dimension.
Stunning and I’m sure the song will go down a storm live
on the upcoming tour.
I for one cannot wait for my Bag Of Bones!!!!!
