Europe – Leeds Academy – 26 November 2012

Not the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen at this venue, shall we say comfortably crowded, but that didn’t stop Europe delivering another highly polished set of songs highlighting their excellent current Bag of Bones CD. Joey Tempest had the crowd eating out of hands from start to finish and entertained us with his knowledge of Yorkshire which seemed to extend Emmerdale and Tetley beer. No one had the heart to tell him that the famous brewery had been closed and knocked down earlier in the year.

I’d heard there was going to be an acoustic section in the middle of the set, and was a bit worried that the pace of the show would be lost at this point. My fears were disproved as the band kept us fully entertain with a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s The World Keep on Turning, Drink and a Smile and Open your Heart. They even managed to play part of Stormbringer after a request from the crowd.

The main set was brought to rocking end with The Beast, Dog House and Rock the Night. The encore kicked off with a great version of Last Look at Eden before the crowd went wild for the Final Count Down.

This band are so much more that the Final Count Down, if you not heard any of their recent material do yourself a favour and check out the Last Look at Eden and Bang of Bones of CDs.
