H.E.A.T. Live In London cd review

Sometimes you review an album and you struggle for words and others you wax lyrical. For this album I feel that I have already done it.

I was lucky enough to be at the London Garage show on the 16th May 2014 where this was mainly recorded so I have already rave reviewed the live show on what was the hottest day of the year so far.

The gig only took the temperature ever higher as this 10 legged Swedish live wrecking crew played one of the best shows I have ever seen in 30 years of gig going

During the review I made a couple of comments that the band themselves picked up on and I use them here again along with the pictures and I haven't changed my mind as I was lucky enough to see the band twice more this year.Once headlining the Friday night at Firefest and also at Islington Academy in December.

So does " Live in London "  compare to that night?

Yes it does. Mixed by Grammy award winning producer Tobias Lindell it captures the raw power seen but also the musicality that hasn't been seen for a very long time in this genre.

Not since the heady days in the 80's when Bon Jovi and Def Leppard ruled the world's stages have a band produced track after track that all would have been singles back in the day.

In fact all of their songs are really anthems taken in their own right and put it up against anything being produced now, each song stands on its own head and shoulders above the rest.

Over the course of 65 minutes the band rip through a setlist heavily weighted on the 2 albums produced since Erik Gronwall took over the microphone from Kenny Leckremo. This was when the music shifted up a gear from the AOR leanings of albums one and two to the rocket fuelled hard edged melodic rock we see today.

Since the departure of Dave Dalone and the band were reduced to only one guitarist they have hit a harder edge sound but not without losing any of the melody and gift for writing songs that deserved to be sang back at them by millions.

The band are on fire from Erik's vocal dynamics and manic stage persona to Eric Rivers riffing hard and soloing short and sharp but always with a melodic edge.
The rhythm team of Jimmy Jay on bass and Crash on drums drive the whole thing along like a Ferrari on super fuel and Jona Tee on keys backs up Eric's riffs and controls the wall of sound.

" Tearing Down The Walls " was 2014's stand out cd for me and plenty of others and all 7 anthems played here come across incredibly well in the live setting.
Opening duo of " Point Of No Return " and the first single " A Shot At Redemption " are the perfect openers driving the crowd into a frenzy with Erik the master of ceremonies.
"Inferno " hits hard with its near metal riff and driving near thrash drum beat while the title track sees Erik on an acoustic guitar in a mass singalong with his vocals pitch perfect.

2012's " Address The Nation " cd has 6 anthems played with the closing duo of " Breaking The Silence " and " Living On The Run " finishing the gig and cd on an almighty high all with huge riffs and drums and vocals being backed up by every member of the crowd as the sweat rolled down the walls just as all gigs should be.

H.E.A.T. hit the Download Festival in June and they can be and should be the next rock superstars and " Live In London " is another step on the road to greatness.

Next time can we have a dvd too?
