Tytan- Snooty Fox Wakefield - 6 August
I was looking through
the Internet a few months ago and discovered that Tytan were going to be
playing the Snooty Fox in August, So nearly 34 years after I saw them support
the Tygers of Pan Tang here was a chance listen again to Rough Justice and
catch up on some 80s metal. In the 2016 line up the only original member is ex
Angel Witch and co-founder bass player Kevin Riddles.
The show tonight had four bands for £5 that has to be good
value in anyone’s book. I did miss the first band but I did catch the excellent
New Device and Ascalon who finished their set with Balls to the Wall. If you
are playing to a 80s crowd, play an 80s classic.
Headliners Tyan opened up with Cold Bitch and Money for Love
from the Rough Justice album. Vocalist/Guitarist Tom Barna doing a fine job in
replacing original singer Karl Swan.
New material was then thrown into the set and sounded great,
let’s hope the band get a chance to record these songs.
Then back to songs from the Rough Justice album including
Women on the Frontline, The Watcher both featuring great guitar work from Dave
Strange. Through the set the sound was enhanced by the keyboards of Andy
Thompson and driven along by the youthful James Wise on drums and the
experienced Kevin Riddles on bass. The set was brought to close with the Ballard
of Edward Case. There was just time for a quick encore before the curfew time
and the band said goodnight.
It was nice to see Paul Gaskin and Gary Pearson (Vardis) in
the audience. Also a big shout out to the sound man at the Snooty Fox as the
sound for all three bands that I witnessed was top draw.
Let hope it is not long unit I can see Tytan again and it
would be great to hear a new CD as well, but in the meantime pick up a copy of
Rough Justice if you don’t have one and see what you have been missing.
