Y&T The Brook Southampton 26-10-17

Since 2006 the UK and Europe have been blessed that every Fall Y&T have graced us with their presence and a very decent size crowd for a Thursday night have gathered at one of the band's favourite venues.

For 2 hours and 20 minutes we were treated to a set list from across their career with a few fan favourites thrown in for good measure.

Here is what they played.

Lay Me Down (Meniketti song)
Storm (Meniketti song)
Winds Of Change
Masters And Slaves
Hang 'Em High

Rock And Roll's Gonna Save The World
Summertime Girls

Squeeze
I'm Coming Home

Encores of 25 Hours A Day
Midnight In Tokyo
Rescue Me
Forever

Every year I am amazed at a band that are constantly on the road playing 150 shows plus that their drive and determination to put on a show never drops below 110%.

Their sheer joy at playing music together to their devoted fans is a credit to them and any new band should be shown this is the way it should be done from a band that is now past 40 years in the business.

As Dave Meniketti said before a very emotional Winds Of Change that he is now the only surviving original member after the passing of Joey Alves earlier this year.

Both Mike Vanderhule on drums and John Nymann on guitar have both been a constant at Dave's side over the course of this annual UK tour and have now been joined by Aaron Leigh on bass who is on his second visit to these shores with the band.

The set list had a few changes with Dave playing 2 songs from his solo cd and both Lay Me Down and Storm especially was superb with big riffs and Dave's wonderful soloing.

Masters And Slaves and Rock N'Roll Gonna Save The World were an excellent addition and as always in the encore many songs were yelled at the band but with a second voice asking for it including mine we had a romp through 25 Hours A Day which made my night.

I Believe In You is a top 10 song of all time for me and again a show stopper. The band may have played it a thousand times but every time it feels like the first time you have heard it and the passion and emotion in Dave's vocal and stunning guitar solo he plays it like his life depends on it.The hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention and the crowd reaction at the end of the song belonged at Wembley Stadium as the the roof shook with applause and cheers to a man that has few peers.

The band all have huge smiles on their faces and I love the way Mike seems to find a new way to end every song with a knowing look from John as if to say I like that!!

Squeeze with John on vocals was played played with a vibrancy and urgency with Dave throwing shape after shape and again huge smiles everywhere.

After another stunning show we all stood to applaud a band that always gives it all every single time and we will all be back same time next year.

You should too.
